We won't have a garden this year We won't laugh over the obscene number of tomatoes What should we make this time? Chili? Sauce? Wait until some more jalapeños ripen and then we'll have salsa? No dirty fingernails and wondering why the strawberries aren't doing better No zucchini to make into bread No laughing toddler as she gets sprayed by the hose while watering the plants We won't have a garden this year We'll uproot our home Pulling the tender shoots from where we've grown content And hope we will take to new soil Before the summer's over, there won't be time to plant in a new garden bed We'll go the whole year without a vegetable harvest We won't have a garden this year But I'm praying we grow where planted.
